‘A Holistic Employment Support Scheme for High-functioning Adolescents and Young Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders’ Opens for Enrollment
Individuals with high-functioning autism do not necessarily perform worse at their job than other employees. In fact, they may outperform others in certain aspects. However, the problems they experience in social interaction, communication, emotional management, etc. make adapting to the work environment difficult for them. With the generous support from The Community Chest, Heep Hong Society will organise ‘A Holistic Employment Support Scheme for High-functioning Adolescents and Young Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders’ during 2014-2017 to help high-functioning autistic youth adapt to the common workplace. A series of workshops will be held to improve the participants’ workplace skills. Professionals will follow up cases on an individual basis to provide support for the participants and their families. The scheme also offers workshops to employers to help them understand autistic individuals. Volunteers will be trained to provide emotional support for the participants, and a parent support network will be established to facilitate communication.
The scheme is now open for enrollment. Please click here for details and application methods (Chinese version only).
